  3.           Section 3.4     Configuring a NetWare Intel Server
  4.
  5.                Description
  6.
  7.                     Hewlett-Packard sells Novell NetWare v3.11 in
  8.                     volumes of 20 servers or more.  HP's version of
  9.                     NetWare v3.11 is exactly the same as the version
  10.                     available from NetWare resellers.
  11.
  12.                     NetWare v3.11 is a full-featured, 32-bit network
  13.                     operating system that supports all key desktop
  14.                     operating systems - DOS, Windows, OS/2, UNIX and
  15.                     Macintosh - as well as the IBM SAA environment.
  16.                     NetWare v3.11 provides a high-performance
  17.                     integration platform for businesses requiring a
  18.                     sophisticated enterprise-wide network computing
  19.                     solution in a  multi-vendor environment.
  20.
  21.                     NetWare v3.11 offers centralized network
  22.                     management and is available from HP in 100 and
  23.                     250-user versions, allowing organizations to
  24.                     standardize on a high-performance networking
  25.                     solution regardless of their size.
  26.
  27.                     NetWare v3.11 is ideal for:
  28.
  29.                     - customers who need multi-client support for
  30.                     office automation applications.  These customers
  31.                     need to use the same or similar applications on
  32.                     DOS, Windows, Macintosh, OS/2 and UNIX
  33.                     workstations and still be able to share data
  34.                     files, printers, scanners, disk space, application
  35.                     software and information.
  36.
  37.
  38.                     - Customers who need support for corporate-wide
  39.                     applications.  To meet their business objectives,
  40.                     these customers must have a network reliable
  41.                     enough to guarantee the availability of key
  42.                     applications.
  43.
  44.                     - Customers who want to standardize on one network
  45.                     operating system to meet the needs of remote
  46.                     office, workgroup, department, corporate and
  47.                     enterprise-wide network users.  This requires
  48.                     flexible pricing and the ability to design systems
  49.                     that vary in capacity, size and applications.
  50.
  51.                     - Customers who want to protect their investment
  52.                     in current hardware and software or who have
  53.                     outgrown their current system.  NetWare v3.11
  54.                     allows customers who have a significant installed
  55.                     base of host systems, applications or LANs to
  56.                     protect these investments, providing an
  57.                     integration platform that ties existing and new
  58.                     services together.  For customers who began with
  59.                     ELS, Advanced or SFT NetWare, NetWare v3.11
  60.                     provides increased capacity, support for
  61.                     additional desktop clients and the ability to
  62.                     integrate additional communication protocols.
  63.
  64.                Summary
  65.
  66.                Required Hardware
  67.
  68.                     NetWare v3.11 requires a network server computer,
  69.                     workstations and network adapters that have been
  70.                     properly installed and connected.  In the server,
  71.                     NetWare v3.11 requires a minimum of 4MB of RAM.
  72.                     More memory may be required,  depending on the
  73.                     number of users, the load they put on the server,
  74.                     the number of NLMs loaded and the size of the
  75.                     network hard disks.  (More than 70MB of disk
  76.                     storage requires additional memory.)  NetWare
  77.                     v3.11's dynamic resource configuration feature
  78.                     notifies the network supervisor when more memory
  79.                     will improve server performance.  To load the
  80.                     software, servers must be equipped with high-
  81.                     capacity floppy disk drives (5.25-inch, 1.2MB or
  82.                     3.5-inch, 1.44MB).  For a complete list of servers
  83.                     certified to work with NetWare v3.11, contact your
  84.                     HP Sales Representative or a Novell Gold or
  85.                     Platinum Reseller.
  86.
  87.                     IBM PCs, XTs, ATs and compatibles and all models
  88.                     of the IBM PS/2 family of computers can be used as
  89.                     network workstations as well as the Macintosh II
  90.                     family and the Macintosh SE, Plus and 512Ke.
  91.                     Contact your HP Sales Representative or a Novell
  92.
  93.
  94.                     Gold or Platinum Reseller for an up-to-date list
  95.                     of compatible workstations.
  96.
  97.                     The type of network adapter used depends on the
  98.                     type of computer used as a server or workstation.
  99.                     In 32-bit Micro Channel servers on Ethernet
  100.                     networks, Novell recommends using the NE/2-32.
  101.                     The 32-bit bus of the NE/2-32 allows users to gain
  102.                     the full performance potential of NetWare v3.11 by
  103.                     increasing the amount of data that can be moved on
  104.                     and off the network and into server memory.  For
  105.                     Extended Industry Standard Architecture (EISA)
  106.                     servers on Ethernet networks, Novell recommends
  107.                     the NE3200, a 32-bit bus master adapter.
  108.
  109.                     Following is a list of adapter drivers bundled
  110.                     with NetWare v3.11.  Novell will provide
  111.                     additional drivers in future versions of NetWare
  112.                     v3.11.  Third-party adapter manufacturers will
  113.                     also supply adapter drivers.
